From Fibreglass to Concrete III – Bonalba Golf

This was our third project in the area involving the transformation of an existing fibreglass swimming pool into a concrete one.

Situated in Bonalba Golf, Alicante, the client had experienced persistent problems with their pool, which had undergone several repairs yet continued to leak. Despite repeated attempts to address the issue, as reflected in the photos above, the pool kept losing water.

While we were constructing new pools for both neighbouring properties, the client – impressed by the standard of our work – decided to proceed with a conversion as well.

A notable complication in Bonalba Golf is the unstable ground, which is prone to subsidence. Consequently, fibreglass pools are not ideal here – further details can be found on our Fibreglass vs. Concrete Pool page.

On removing and disposing of the fibreglass shell, we discovered, as with the neighbouring properties, only a thin concrete layer beneath, surrounded by nothing but sand. This concrete was cracked, lacked reinforcing mesh, and had hollow sections below.

We demolished the inadequate base, disposed of the rubble, carefully compacted the soil, and commenced construction of the new pool.

The terrace has been finished in 40 x 40 cm cream-coloured paving slabs.

The new pool is once again inviting – a perfect spot to enjoy the warmer months.
